WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s coach Phil Hicken has paid tribute to Harry Ellis after his appearance in the World Junior Championships.
Ellis finished eighth in the third heat of the 1500m in Moncton, Canada, producing one of the fastest times by a European on the day.
Hicken said: “Harry ran tactically very well until he was unfortunately involved in a small pile-up with 600 metres to go, which was a consequence of athletes ahead of him pushing and shoving.
“Despite that Harry got on with his race but couldn’t match the finishing speed of the African athletes, who put in a 39-second final 300m.
“It has been a positive experience for Harry and for me as his coach.
“We have learned some lessons this season, had very positive feedback from UK Athletics on his training, race temperament and ability to adapt to new environments. And the feedback at the championships from UKA was glowing.”
