Local voluntary sports clubs have teamed up with Great Sankey Leisure Centre and Great Sankey High School to establish the ‘Great Sankey Community Sports Club Forum’. Over 20 clubs are involved in the group which seeks to collectively raise the profile of sport and sports clubs in the area, raise participation amongst young people, and share ideas and resources.
The newly constituted group meets on a regular basis at Great Sankey High School and all new and established clubs are welcome to attend. Recently the group came together to run a sporting fun day for the local community on Sunday 28th February. The day was a huge success with hundreds of children trying out various sporting activities on offer. Executive member Bob Timmis commented about the day that it was “real community involvement in action and a great success”. The group is looking to organise other events in the near future and have also been successful in attracting funding to support coach education for clubs in the community.
