Warrington School Sport Partnership hosted its annual launch of the Leadership Academy programme at the Peace Centre this year.
The Leadership Academy, essentially a club for sports leaders across the town, aims to help young people develop their leadership skills by offering them training, support, mentoring and placements, so that they can improve their life skills and prepare for the world of work.
Sports Leadership programmes run across the town, thanks to the hard work of the SSCos, PE staff and School Sport Partnership, and the programme has been proven to help young people increase their confidence, attainment and in some cases improve attitude to learning and behaviour.
This year’s Academy launch activities were largely run by sports leaders involved with the NSPCC’s Participation Through Sport programme, another great opportunity for sports leaders. The enthusiasm and skill of the sports leaders was evident – they were great role models for the new Academy members.
More activities are planned throughout the year, including additional training opportunities, and a project which will be organised by the Young Ambassadors to promote 2012 in the Community, funded by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
