Developing talented performers is a key part of the PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP) and links closely with work being done in competition and development of multiskills as part of the Long Term Athlete Development Framework (LTAD).

In Warrington we support older pupils through the Junior Athlete Education Programme (JAE) and support younger pupils displaying potential talent through identification processes using the 5 competency areas and by linking to Multi-Skills Clubs (MSCs) and running Multi-Skills Academies (MSAs) to develop their potential further.  FE students can also take part in the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS).

With the recent success of our Paralympic squad in Beijing, there can be no doubt that we need to apply all of our work in identifying and supporting talent development to young disabled pupils too. For local information on this subject, contact SSCo Inclusion, James Howes.
